Welcome to Probation Officer 2008. By entering this site you have taken the first step along the road to becoming a Trainee Probation Officer (TPO). You should be warned that this is not going to be an easy road to navigate, but like most things that are challenging, it can be rewarding.
First you have quite a bit of reading to do. You are advised to read very carefully all the information relating to the Region to which you are applying. If you currently have little or no knowledge of the Probation Service do not be discouraged, but do take the time to do some research. Start by visiting the Probation Service website at www.probation.homeoffice.gov.uk
Naturally, knowledge and experience of the Probation Service is helpful. However, we’re keen to recruit people with a wide range of previous experiences. Remember when you complete your application, to tell us how your experiences will relate to the work of a Probation Officer.
Take time and care in completing the application form as we get many applications for a limited number of training opportunities. This year we’re looking to recruit about 300 trainees nationally. We anticipate about 15,000 applicants, so it’s very important to clearly demonstrate your potential in the application form. Successful applicants will then enter an assessment centre process.
We make our application process thought provoking and exacting for a good reason. We want to ensure your full commitment to what will be two years’ very hard work to achieve the Probation Officer qualification.
Good luck with your application, we wish you every success!
